Yesterday I spent some hours fighting against Wordpress ’cause I discovered that I couldn’t send trackbacks or pingbacks.

I searched for an answer using Google, till I found this post: there’s a bug in Wordpress v.2.0!! After I fixed it, I tested trackbacks using this blog: i can receive trackbacks, but I still can’t send them!!!

So I upgraded Wordpress to version 2.0.5. expecting that trackback bug was fixed, but it was not. Then I studied the Wordpress (open) source code to find out where the problem was. But in wp-includes/function-post.php and in wp-admin/execute-ping.php there was nothing strange: it seemed that everything about trackback was fixed.

Surfing the net I hit on this post in chinese where the only sentences in english suggest to bump up PHP memory limit, and I can’t do that ’cause I’m under altervista. The post in chines wasn’t so useful but it made me think that the problem could be triggered by hosting service.

So I found this post in italian (my native language) that explains how altervista provides PHP installed on server Apache, but with safe_mode on!!! That’s why I can’t send trackbacks!!!

I can’t do anything to solve this problem, so I decided to create a blog using wordpress platform. In past I signed in it and then I deleted my blog. It was not a wise act, ’cause now franciov.wordpress.com is not available anymore, to nobody!!

After all i’m alive, but I’m considering to move somewhere else…
