MyBlogLogging

MyBlogLog Profile

In these days I’m playing with MyBlogLog and I think it will be one of my favourite toys for a long while. Here is MyBlogLog Profile from which you can access all my blogs and join to my communities and know me better, while I am able to know who are visiting my blogs or my photogallery and what he/she in turn likes visiting, simply looking at his/her MyBlogLog Profile and his/her blogs and communities he/she joined. And to see his/her face. Readers could also become friends and so on. Yes, just a social networking system, but with very interesting peculiarities..

Recent ReadersFirst of all MyBlogLog provide some widgets for your blogs. The most interesting is the Recent Readers Widget. Using this widget every MyBlogLog user visiting your blog will be inserted in the apposite box (shown on the left) with his/her face and link to his/her MyBlogLog Profile. This is a way to know who are reading your writing and to make your readers famous. Other widgets are Top Links Widget with which you can keep your readers aware of the most popular links on your site with no work, and Stats Tracking Widget with which you can track blog traffic.

Moreover if you want to get the MyBlogLog avatars on your blog comments you can download MyAvatars, a Wordpress plug-in written by Napolux, one of my MyBlogLog contacts. :P

The MyBlogLog picture feature is still not popular among MyBlogLog users, but in my opinion this feature could play a very importat role. Frank Gruber in his blog says that «the picture functionality is a very primitive single photo upload which hinders the number of images I would upload to the service. Additionally, all items posted are public as it does not appear to offer security levels.» However here are my pics on MyBlogLog. :P

Obviously MyBlogLog is not perfect. First of all SPAM activity is the scourge of MyBlogLog. But in this case spammers are not programs or scripts. A MyBlogLog spammer is a person who joins every community he/she pass by, who adds everyone as contact and who leaves thousands of messages. Moreover MyBlogLog is not immune from bugs. The most famous is the one that allows people to comment on behalf of other MyBlogLog users and create communities that do not belong to them.

If you have in mind to sign up for MyBlogLog, or if you are already a member but have no idea what to do, have a look at this (almost) complete guide to MyBlogLog(ging) by qureyoon. In addition, Yaro Starak have written a very interesting post about MyBlogLog Craze.

Finally, I want to thank my readers and my new (almost) friends at MyBlogLog. I hope you like my blogs and my photogallery. If I joined your community it’s because I really love your blog. ;)

Feel free to join my community ;)

[UPDATE] Eric Marcoullier (MyBlogLog co-founder) calls for our help: MyBlogLog needs your help — what do we do (if anything) about spam?

Finally we have a platform where we bloggers can interact. Sometimes it is difficult to handle all the spammers, but I guess keeping in mind the benefits of MyBlogLog it does not take much. Cool Blog.

@Divya Uttam: Thank you for the good comment! ;) Spammers on MyBlogLog are intended to proliferate. MyBlogLog staff are working for reduce spamming activity, but it’s not easy at all. Here’s why Eric called for our help…

Hi! I posted on Eric Marcoullier’s ‘blog earlier.

As of signing up my MyBlogLog (and then paying for full membership two an hour ago) I’ve had several hundred page views and had the author of this very ‘blog become a member of my own community.

What worried me was the danger of classifying legitimate usage of MyBlogLog as spam.

While I haven’t been firing out hundreds of messages to people (only 3 so far, I think) I did go through the Community Directory and go through dozens of profiles as they were listed, looking for good ‘blogs to read.

Is this me being spammy? I hope not! I’m just trying to find good content.

So as Eric Marcoullier mentions, it’s maybe a very, very difficult issue to deal with, if there are other people like me who do things at speed…

Yes, in the MyBlogLog network spam is a very difficult issue to deal with, and especially to identify. However, in my humble opinion, there are some things which could be reconsidered or improved.

For istance, I would like having the opportunity to authorize (or not) someone to add me as a contact. Moreover family members, friends and admires should be told apart in a better way. Why am I to appear in a lot of contact lists as a friend? «I’m not a friend of you! Join my communities instead!» This is not really about spam, I know.

Spam is more about messages than contact lists. To handle message spamming the “report spam” button is not enough! I would like having the opportunity to select users which can leave a message for me: everybody, contacts, or users with certain characteristics (number of joined communities?). And what about a daily limit for outgoing messages? I think it wouldn’t be a bad idea.

No Wayne, you are not being spammy! :D Surfing the MyBlogLog network is not spam at all! However I’ve added you to my contact list: I’m just a fan of yours, for the time being ;)

      Phew! That’s a relief! :)
